Korean Body Scrub (Seshin)

The legendary Korean bathhouse scrub: after a long soak, an attendant with abrasive mitts removes every dead skin cell you own. Brisk, unceremonious, and the single most transformative $30 in wellness.

What it costs

Seoul jjimjilbang $25–45; add-ons (oil, cucumber pack, hair wash) $10–30
Korean spas in the US $60–120 plus entry

What to expect

You soak first — mandatory, it softens the skin — then lie on a vinyl table in the bath hall while the attendant (same gender) scrubs head to toe with Italy-towel mitts. Gray rolls of dead skin are the point of pride. It ends with a rinse, sometimes an oil or milk splash. You will be smoother than you have been since childhood.

Etiquette & modesty

Fully nude, as is everything in the bathing hall — the same-gender environment normalizes it within minutes. Book the scrub at the bath-hall desk, not the front counter, at most facilities. No tipping. Skip if you have sunburn, fresh tattoos, or very sensitive skin.
