Traditional Thai Massage
The temple-lineage original: a clothed, oil-free sequence of acupressure and assisted yoga-like stretching performed on a floor mat. Closer to a workout done to you than to a Swedish rubdown — and the reason many people plan entire trips around Thailand.
What it costs
What to expect
You change into loose pajama-style garments and lie on a firm floor mat. The therapist uses palms, thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet to compress muscles along energy lines, then folds you into deep stretches. Expect to be walked on (skillfully). You may hear joints release. Done well, you leave feeling taller.
Etiquette & modesty
Fully clothed throughout — modesty is a non-issue. Shoes off at the door. Tell the therapist about injuries before starting, and say "bao bao" (gently) early if pressure is too much. Two hours is the culturally standard "full" session.
